A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi led a candle-light march at midnight at India Gate to protest against the incidents of rape in Kathua and Unnao, the party has now called upon its leaders across the country to hold similar candle-light demonstrations in all state and district headquarters.
"When we talk about Unnao and Kathua rape cases, you could straight away see the politics in it". Vampires are slowly killing our soul.¿ Stressing on the fact that the protest was a non-political one, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said the "Sab chalta hai" (everything is OK) attitude will not do and the government needs to do something regarding the issue.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday thanked people who joined the candlelight protest in New Delhi on Thursday midnight, demanding justice for Kathua and Unnao rape victims. "Our daughters will definitely get justice", the Prime Minister added.
"Atrocities against women across the country, specially in the BJP ruled states, is on the rise". This situation is such today that one after another incident of murder, rape and violence is taking place in various parts of the country. Ashok Gehlot, in-charge of the organisation said Congress units in every State will be holding candlelight vigils to highlight crimes against women. "We will have to strengthen family systems, social values and justice delivery system", he said. "The party is sleeping over such matters while its ministers and MLAs are involved which is really shameful", Maken said while addressing protesters near the Red Fort.
Leading the candle march at India Gate Rahul Gandhi said, "We want the government to act against violence and crimes against women".
