Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions this afternoon due to local rivals Manchester United losing to West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.

"People are asking whether we are the best Premier League side in history, but the answer is no, because we have a lot of work to still do", he told City's official website.

"The difference is that we were consistent the whole season and played at the level we are expected to perform at", Kompany said.

"You can't take (winning the league) for granted, I've won three now but there's so many we've missed", he said.

Manchester City had earlier released a video of Kompany watching the moment City won the title at the home of his partner's Mum, with one glum Manchester United fan quick to congratulate the Belgian defender in his moment of joy. "The previous ones we almost threw it away, I've seen many teams win it as champions for the whole season but in our case it's the first time".

"My team-mates will roll their eyes as I want to see the reaction from us next season as I've never been able to retain a title".

And Middleton finished right behind him with 31 points on 60 percent shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from three. IN was in control from the outset, opening a 21-point lead in the first quarter and leading by 23 in the third.

"I noticed within the first month that if I'd met him at 18 or 20 [years old] then I would've been the ideal player for him", Kompany said.

"At my age I can still learn and I enjoy every minute of it, but I think we share one thing of having the hunger and desire to never be satisfied". There is so much to do before we unlock our full potential'.

'Especially if you've been a Blue for more than forty years. I think there was a period of adaptation that was needed, for him and us.

"He's a better loser than a victor, I have got to be honest!"

Kompany watched Manchester United's shocking 1-0 defeat to West Brom, which handed City the title on Sunday, with his wife Carla at her United-supporting father's home before broadcasting his celebrations live on social media.
