The 65th National Film Awards have been announced with Bollywood film "Newton" emerging as the Best Film and music maestro AR Rahman emerging as the biggest victor. Sridevi posthumously won the Best Actress Award for her film MOM that also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna and Pakistani actors, Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui in pivotal roles. "I had shot for this film after my mother died so I was in a very disturbed state of mind, I gave it my all", she added. Interestingly the director Rima Das has no formal training in filmmaking.

Jury member and noted film director Shekhar Kapur said, the jury is stunned at the quality of films in the regional cinema. This was the actress' third film after a long gap, with English Vinglish and Puli being the first two. I'm really happy, it's a great news for me because it was our film.

"It was not because of the relationship we shared but because she was the most deserving candidate for her portrayal in "Mom"," Kapur said.

Overall, Malayalam cinema dominated the awards this year with films like Bhayanakam and Take Off receiving multiple accolades.
