The company has announced that the Redmi 5A will now be available at its original price of Rs. 5,999 through online retailer Flipkart as well as company's own online store in India. The teaser page has a slew of teasers of the upcoming smartphone along with the Compact Powerhouse teaser as well. Xiaomi Redmi 5 was first launched in China past year, along with the Redmi 5 Plus.
Redmi 5 will be Xiaomi's successor to last year's Redmi 4, which was launched at a starting price of Rs 6,999 going up all the way to Rs 10,999. The Plus model, however, was launched in India as the Redmi Note 5. This means, in India we can expect the Redmi 5 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model to be priced around Rs 7,000, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage could cost around Rs 8,500. Those who are interested can sign up for the live stream of Redmi 5 on the Xiaomi website by logging into their Mi.com accounts or using their Facebook account.
The device is backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core SoC paired with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM options, however the Indian market will most probably get the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variants.
The Redmi 5 is equipped with 5.7-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 720x1440p resolution and 282ppi pixel density.

The 3 GB variant of Redmi Note 5 will be available for Rs 9,999, while its 4 GB variant can be priced at Rs 11,999. However, the storage can be extended with a MicroSD card.
On the photography front, the Redmi 5 features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and an LED flash.
Redmi Note 5 is in 3 GB RAM with 32 Gb storage and 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage variants. The front-snapper also features the company's proprietary Beautify 3.0. There's a 5MP selfie camera on the front which now comes with a "soft light" flash for better low light selfies.
The Redmi 5 provides dual-SIM support with support for 4G VoLTE, and runs the Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 custom ROM. In a surprise move, the smartphone manufacturer has chose to update all the phones including those that got released four years ago.
