That unemployment rate was unchanged from December. Whereas, in quarterly terms, total employment increased with 0.9 % compared to the third quarter of 2017.
Unemployment rates grew in January in each of the state's six metropolitan areas. Comparatively, the national unemployment rate declined to 4.1 percent from 4.8 percent. The monthly unemployment rate is a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicator that reflects the number of unemployed people seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the labour force participation rate for the population aged from 15 to 64 is 67.4 %. Another 3,500 jobs were added in education and health services.
In February, the USA economy added 313,000 new payroll jobs, the biggest single monthly increase since July 2016.
Miami-Dade added 5,100 jobs in education and health services; 3,400 in professional and business services; 2,900 in manufacturing; 2,200 in trade, transportation and utilities; and 1,000 in construction.
