The Minnesota Anti-War Committee issued the following action alert to its supporters on March 15 after the Trump administration announced the nomination of CIA Director Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State and the nomination of Deputy Director Gina Haspel for CIA director.
Trump, these people said, informally offered Cohn the position, telling him he thought he'd be a good fit for the job, and Cohn had agreed to take it. Trump long ago decided that Pompeo would replace Tillerson as secretary of state, and the president in recent weeks had bounced the idea of sending Cohn to the Central Intelligence Agency off his closest external advisers.
Pompeo will then head to Congress for meetings with senators ahead of his nomination hearing sometime in April.
Pompeo also plans to meet Monday with Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker of Tennessee.
Mahmoud Abbas Blames Hamas For Gaza Attack On PM's Convoy
The blockade of the Gaza strip, which includes land, air and sea blockade by Israel and Egypt, began in 2007. He said Mr Abbas's "response was to refer to me as a son of a dog".
"He keeps appointing people around him who like the war with Iraq so much they're eager to start a war with Iran next", Paul said, noting that Trump has expressed opposition to the war in Iraq.
But Paul has vowed to throw wrenches in the way of his GOP colleagues as they undergo the process of confirming Pompeo and Haspel - and he doubled down on that promise, not excluding a filibuster option, although that ultimately wouldn't be successful unless he gets enough lawmakers to join him. Republicans hold only a 51-49 majority in the Senate.
It had previously been reported that Tillerson learned of the move via Twitter. Reuters, citing its inside sources, reported that disagreement between Tillerson and Trump over the approach towards solving the Korean nuclear crisis was the main reason for his dismissal, as the USA president allegedly thought his top diplomat would want to back down on North Korea.
