Telangana Legislative Council chairman Swamy Gaud was allegedly hit by a microphone by Congress MLC Komatireddy Venkata Reddy on the first day of budget session on Monday. The Governor, however, continued his address highlighting various welfare and development programmes of the government.
Reddy and other Congress MLAs were protesting the K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR)-led Telangana government's indifferent attitude towards rising farmer suicides in the state. "This is totally uncalled for by the opposition members". A few of them held placards and some members also tore papers and flung them in the air.
The marshals stopped the Congress members when they tried to storm the podium. "What would have happened if the headphone hit the governor, causing him injuries?" he asked. Congress also lost two of its MLAs and may have to face by-elections in those two constituencies.

The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assembly is likely to meet after that to decide the duration of the session and its agenda, official sources said. Defending the act of his party members, who staged protests in the House, he said the Government was trying to gag the opposition parties in the House. The Governor, who wished that fruitful debate should take place on people's issues, concluded his address calling for happy living of every citizen with spiritual values. Doctors have kept him under observation for 24 hours. "We shall take appropriate action against the MLA and his colleagues for violating assembly rules", Rao said.
