700-plus horsepower 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 teased

The new Ford Bronco will be based on the Ranger pickup and go on sale in 2020

First Ford Bronco image revealed along with plans for SUV blitz

Although not standard, Ford says its new vehicles will also offer what it calls "premium driver-assist technologies" like adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centering, evasive steering assist and post-collision braking.

Much of the emphasis will be on refreshing or revamping the entire lineup of SUVs while adding gas-electric hybrid powertrains, two new off-road SUVs and two new trucks.

What we see in the teaser is the gaping maw of the beast.

Not only did Ford release an image of the vehicle, but the Dearborn brand also let slip that the GT500 would make more than 700 horsepower. Now, the automaker is driving toward a near-term future in which cars account for only 14 percent of its volume, with SUVs and trucks growing to around 86 percent of North American sales.

Now for its SUVs, Ford recently introduced the new Expedition and EcoSport models, but its mainstream models are next. However, he also reveals that there'll be another new small off-roader, so-far unnamed, which will slot in under the Bronco come 2020. Farley said Ford's definition of off-road is not Jeep and Moab, but dirt trails, sand dunes, and general lifestyle adventures while retaining strong on-road capability, like the Raptor. The next Explorer will also get an ST high-performance version, just like the Edge ST that slots below it. Plus, there is another SUV in the works by 2020 and then four more planned after that, said Hinrichs.

In a dramatic statement out of Detroit, Ford (NYSE:F) says it's going all-in on hybrids.

The peek behind the curtain-not all details can be shared yet-comes as investors and critics have described Ford as falling behind the competition in everything from products to technology to overall management.

The efforts include reducing engineering costs by $4 billion over five years, cutting development time by 20 percent, reducing complexity by offering fewer configurations of vehicles, and improving quality. The five architectures will be a front-wheel-drive unibody model (passenger cars and small crossovers), a rear-wheel-drive unibody one (performance cars like the Mustang), a body-on-frame one (likely for pickup trucks and big SUVs), a commercial van platform (for the Transit) and a unique battery-electric vehicle platform.

Ford already confirmed that there'd be a hybrid Mustang, promising V8-levels of performance from a more economical drivetrain. Co-Pilot360 will be on an updated Fusion.
