The "unprovoked and indiscriminate" shelling of civilian areas almost three-four kilometres from the Line of Control (LoC) by the Pakistani troops, in violation of a ceasefire agreement, lasted nearly four hours this morning, they said.

The Pakistani troops are targeting the civilian areas. The deceased were Ramzan, his wife Malika bi (32), their sons Abdul Rehman (14), Mohammad Rizwan (12) and Razaq Ramzan (seven).

But India has made it clear to Islamabad that the onus is on Pakistan to create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue between the two countries.

This killing of five civilians is the highest number of civilian casualties in a day in cross LoC firing and shelling this year.

In an incident, which is only likely to increase tension between India and Pakistan, 5 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir have been killed due to ceasefire violation. Onus is on Pakistan to create such a conducive atmosphere.
