The Ferrari 488 Pista marks a significant step forward from the previous special series in terms of both sporty dynamics and for the level of technological carry-over from racing.
Aiding the performance of track-focused Ferrari 488 Pista is a 20 percent increase in downforce part of which comes with the help of a Formula 1-inspired S-duct, underbody vortex generators, new front diffuser elements along with the double-kink rear diffuser borrowed from the GTE racing auto and the longer and higher blown rear spoiler.
Compared to the 488 GTB, the Pista weighs 90kg less at 1280kg dry, which is not a whole lot to carry when its 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 generates a staggering 530kW at 8000rpm and 770Nm at 3000rpm. The auto only weighs 2822 pounds, which helps the Pista dust off the 0-62 miles per hour sprint in only 2.85 seconds; it'll go on to a top speed of 211 miles per hour (the 488 GTE race vehicle only sees 180 mph).
Following in the hallowed footsteps of the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale, the Pista is an uncompromising performance focused update to the 488 with track tenths the key goal. But nobody was arguing with the 488's increase in power.
The engine sound is unique and unmistakably Ferrari, as such a special auto warrants.
North Korea poised to launch large-scale cyberattacks, says new report
North Korea toned down its rhetoric and tried to negotiate a co-hosting of the Olympics, but this effort fell apart. The ministry stressed the importance of the drill, citing November's North Korean ballistic missile activities.
Underbody vortex generators and redesigned diffusers now generate 20% more downforce than other 488 variants. In addition, the rear blown spoiler is higher and longer and the shape has been optimised. 20 per cent extra downforce is yielded from these changes. The objective was to make the car's performance on the limit easier to reach and control.
Technology includes the sixth-generation Side-Slip Angle Control system, which for the first time includes the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer which uses software to adjust the brake pressure at the callipers. The Pista also gets the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer thrown into this package, which gives the car's computers full control of brake pressure at each individual caliper during cornering to help you keep the flawless drift angle through corners, power out harder, and generally feel like even more of a superhero.
The Ferrari 488 Pista is the most powerful V8 supercar to exit Maranello's thoroughbred stables and its race-car derived tech show that Ferrari is back in the V8 supercar game to compete with its F1-rival and upstart on the streets - McLaren. As such, there is a Formula 1 inspired S-Duct that directs air from the front intakes up and over the windscreen.
The concept of the front is echoed in the dolphin-tail rear spoiler which appears suspended to provide an impression lightness and efficiency, while the rear volumes add a sense of power to the tail.
"The auto also features for the first time on a Ferrari optional 20" carbon-fibre wheel rims, while other carbon-fibre parts include the engine cover, bumpers and rear spoiler.
