Trump also said the Israeli settlements in the West Bank "complicate" matters, stating that Israel "needs to act with caution on the topic of settlements".

Trump said he was not sure whether there would be peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, but said, "I think it is very foolish for the Palestinians, and I also think it would be very foolish for the Israelis, if they don't make a deal". Malaysia had strongly protested the decision and voted, along with 127 other countries, at the United Nations general assembly last December in favour of a resolution rejecting US' recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, but USA ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdir was quoted by Sunday Star as saying cooperation between Malaysia and the U.S. were "ongoing". "But it was a very important pledge that I made and I fulfilled my pledge", Trump said. "I think they are probably as good as they have ever been".
