Two Ohio Police Officers Have Been Killed In The Line Of Duty

The city of Westerville confirmed on Twitter reports that two of the city's police officers were killed in "the line of duty".

A news conference was scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday to reveal more details, but it has been postponed.

At least 12 officers overall have died between January 1 an February 10, which is a decrease from the 15 officers killed during the same time frame past year.

The Westerville Division of Police confirms two officers have been shot and killed Saturday afternoon on Crosswind Drive.

"We will miss both of these officers because they were pillars in our department", he says.

Before Morbitzer spoke, Westerville city manager Dave Collingsworth identified the fallen officers as Eric Joering and Anthony Morelli.

Mobitzer calls the 39-year-old Morelli and 54-year-old Joering "true American heroes". When responding officers arrived, they were fired upon. The Columbus Division of Police will be handling the investigation.

Morelli was also recognized for taking place in the 2015 Ohio Law Enforcement Torch Run, supporting the Special Olympics of Ohio.

We are deeply saddened to report that one of our officers has been killed in the line of duty.
