Official rules stated that competitors for snowboard halfpipe must have turned at least 15 years old by the end of 2013.
Chloe Kim was ready for the Olympics in 2014, but by rule, they were not ready for her.
Kim meant what she tweeted.
"To be able to have seen her a couple weekends ago at the Grand Prix and just in her strength and in her element, the grace, the height, the athleticism that she has, it was just awesome", said Lora Wehsener, the education liaison at the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation. "I feel like he's really smart when it comes to parenting, a little overprotective but respectful".

Like most things on a snowboard, Chloe Kim and her father learned together.

She landed a superb first run and increased the difficulty on her second - posting a score of 95.50, which was quite a bit ahead of the next finisher, Liu Jiayu of China. A number of Olympic sponsors have made her a cornerstone of their activations, and she's been featured heavily in NBC's lead-up marketing, even starring in her own Super Bowl commercial.
Eventually, after a two-year stint living in Switzerland with her aunt and snowboarding in the Alps, Kim came back to California and joined Wisner's program at Mammoth.

Her upward trajectory in the sport has continued, as she has used almost unparalleled amplitude and the most progressive tricks to become the best women's halfpipe rider in the world.
Just 17, she is the only X Games athlete to win three gold medals before the age of 16.
Kim, the Korean-American who has become the poster child for Pyeongchang 2018, looked superior to the rest of the field during both runs of qualifying. Teammates Arielle Gold, Maddie Mastro and Kelly Clark went second, third and fourth behind Kim at X Games. But it just didn't go how I wanted it to go.
