Kane, Aguero star in crucial Premier League victories

Kane on target as Spurs take derby spoils

Pep Guardiola knows a thing or two about coaching Ballon d'Or winners, so we should all probably take note when he says that Kevin De Bruyne can win the most prestigious individual award in football.

Kevin De Bruyne was the creative fulcrum of Manchester City's latest demolition job, while Mousa Dembele inspired Tottenham's North London derby triumph.

Guardiola's only stipulation is that City must progress in the Champions League as far as Barcelona and Real Madrid to give De Bruyne the platform to showcase his talents alongside the best in the world. When one player is able to score four goals, he deserves all the credit.

Spurs could have won by more ahad they not squandered a string of chances in the second half, but Kane's seventh goal in eight games against the Gunners was enough for all three points.

Yet it was Kevin De Bruyne who stole the show and bossed the game.

"Champions League is about how you control the emotion and how you control the bad moments".

He is a strong favorite to become England's player of the year for 2017-18 - only Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is a genuine rival for the prize - but the Ballon d'Or is on another level.

He may not be racking up the goals like some of his more attacking counterparts, but his contributions in both attack and defence are far ahead of most other players in Europe, even if the available statistics may not always reflect this.

"I do everything to win titles with the team". The way he played, it's hard to find one in Europe'. "We have had three massive games against (Manchester) United, Liverpool and Arsenal and seven points is good". The team's previous best run was to the semifinals in 2016.

"It was a big stage in our season and we have come out with flying colors", Kane said after scoring a league-leading 23rd goal. De Bruyne fed Aguero again in the 53rd minute.

"I don't know (which was my favourite goal) - maybe the last one because it's a long time since I scored from outside the box", Aguero said.

And finally, he names Saturday's star man: Sergio Aguero (of course!). The Belgian is playing in a deeper central-midfield role, where he can influence games more with his passing, energy and reading of the game.

Aguero scored his goals in the second half, propelling City to a 16-point lead at the top of the standings.

City will face an almighty task to win the greatest club competition in the world though, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich looking as strong as ever, while you can not ever discount Real Madrid.

'I'm very pleased with the way everything is going for me.

They removed any lingering doubts when Tom Davies struck from close range to make it three with a quarter of an hour remaining, and Luka Milivojevic's reply from the penalty spot after a handball was too little, too late. "Without getting to the latter stages, you will not be nominated".
