Snapchat released its recent redesign to tons of new users this weekend and many are not happy about it.

The outrage for this redesign is so strong that Twitter users RT'ed a tweet featuring a fake reply from Snapchat promising to go back to its old design over a million times already.

So shook, in fact, that hundreds took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, and there's even petitions to "make Snapchat great again". If you haven't updated to the latest version, you should expect it in the next few days. If this was the only change Snapchat made to the app, people would not be complaining.

As of Tuesday morning, for example, a petition on Change.org to remove the new update has attracted over 660,000 of a targeted one million signatures.

In response to the backlash, a Snap spokesperson told CNN: "Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in".

We'll have to see about that.

For more fallout from Snapchat's redesign hit the flip. (Today the euphoria has dissipated, but Snap is still hovering at about $18 a share.) The dramatic reversal was proof to some that Spiegel's overhaul of Snapchat's app, which he announced past year in the midst of the downturn, had paid off, finally fending off Facebook's encroach and mounting accusations that Snapchat was old news.

Snapchat also has dropped to a two-star rating on Apple's App Store, owing to disgruntled users' posting a slew of one-star reviews after the redesign. The app still looks the same from outside but it splits into two sections one for friend's feed and another one for social content (most viewed stories), while the struggling part is when a user uploads his/her story, now the story icon is being displayed with profile bar. Snapchat now has 187 million daily active users.

There are concerns that the update will alienate the app's current young user base though, and, judging by the negative reaction, it's certainly doing just that for some.

Reverting back to the old update also means you won't get the new features. The Snap Map has also been moved to the Discover page. That's far longer than normal Snapchat stories, which only last 24 hours.

You can embed Snap Map stories elsewhere on the web in three formats: individual stories, a collection from a location or event, or stories in a specific geographic area.
