Eric Schneiderman filed the civil rights suit against the Weinstein Company, claiming it repeatedly broke NY law by failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation and discrimination.

Filed in New York County Supreme Court, the suit includes new and extensive accusations about longtime company CEO Harvey Weinstein's mistreatment of employees.

The lawsuit presents an obstacle for ex-Obama administration official Maria Contreras-Sweet's bid for the company. The standoff occurred because the Weinstein Company board rejected a settlement offer on Wednesday that potentially left them open to liability over sexual harassment claims against the company, according to an individual with knowledge of the talks.
