Google Pixel yearly sales double to 3.9 million in 2017

Google shipped 3.9 million Pixel smartphones in 2017

Google shipped 3.9 million Pixel phones last year, IDC says

Apple sold 77.3 million iPhones in the Christmas quarter for an average of 849.450 iPhones a day, per ZDNet's math.

The Pixel phones are excellent, but Google just doesn't have much success in selling them.

As per IDC's research director Francisco Jeronimo, Google doubled shipments of Pixel smartphones in 2017 with 3.9 million units sold.

Pixel smartphone sales are certainly heading in the right direction, validating the company's recent push into making Google hardware.

Flu Cases Show Signs Of Decreasing From Late December Highs
The flu scare has also left pharmacies running low on the preventative influenza drug, Tamiflu . There are spot shortages of flu-fighting medications, both in Georgia and nationally .

Google launched the first Pixel phone in October 2016 and followed it up with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

Doubling the number of units shipped is a good step for Google even if you don't take that number at face value. That means Apple needed 4.6 days to sell 3.9 million iPhones - mind you, these aren't iPhone X units, as Apple did not divulge the actual split for the period. In addition, there are 499 Apple Stores spread out in 22 countries, while Google relies on occasional pop-ups and its online Google Store, with no constant physical retail presence. However, looking at the big picture, Google still has a lot of catching up to do.

Google has high hopes for the Pixel line. While the numbers are not great in the global smartphone market, it shows steady growth for the company's lineup. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL launched previous year to no shortage of enthusiasm from Android fans, replacing handsets that had been equally lauded by vocal users. Samsung, with a wider range of price points, is the smartphone sales leader with 317.3 million phones shipped in 2017, according to IDC.
