Donald Trump, Kim Jong Un impersonators thrown out of Olympics

North Korea had a military parade on the eve of the Olympic Games

US VP Pence skips Olympic dinner: Seoul

North and South Korea teams entered together under the Korean Unification Flag during the Opening Ceremony.

Vice President Mike Pence is in South Korea with the rest of these officials for the Winter Olympics, but his visit has been overshadowed by the diplomacy going on.

"This is the first time Mike Pence has been accused of being a snob", said an aide to the vice president, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the North Korean reports.

The two Koreas have worked together to send a joint team to major worldwide sports events only twice before - both in 1991, for the world table tennis championships in Japan and for soccer's World Youth Championship in Portugal. They noted that the plane had been given the flight number 615 - a reference to June 15, the final day of the first inter-Korean summit in 2000. "We are all touched by this wonderful gesture. We want peace, everybody wants peace, nobody wants war". Contact was inevitable. And the unified entry of the Korean athletes at the opening ceremony presented a truly cringeworthy moment.

In many ways, the Korean women's hockey squad at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is the most interesting team in the world.

They start in March, and Washington has so far been adamant that they are crucial.

Before Pence arrived, Moon's office announced he will meet with Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Pence, who is using his visit to South Korea to underscore the Trump administration's policy of maximum pressure on the North, has publicly and repeatedly warned Seoul not to let down its guard to a North Korean charm offensive.

A South Korean government official said tens of thousands of people participated or watched the parade that morning in Pyongyang.

Mr Pence seeks to counter what he called North Korean "propaganda" around the Winter Olympics, and is eager to put a reality check on the thaw in relations between the Koreas in advance of the Games. Will Patrick Chan of Canada hit his quad jumps and claim figure skating glory?

Russian Federation as a nation will not be present after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) instigated a ban in the wake of the McLaren report into state-sponsored doping, including at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

But the athletic aspect of these games has been overshadowed in the buildup to the opening ceremony by a frenzied, increasingly momentous fire-hose spray of political developments.

Acknowledging that the team's composition was the result of a political statement, Murray said that now the Olympics have begun, it's time to compete as a team.

The North has sent almost 500 people to the Pyeongchang Games including officials, athletes, artists and cheerleaders after the Koreas agreed to a series of conciliatory gestures to mark the games.

The temperatures throughout the 17 days of the Games could make PyeongChang the coldest Olympics since Lillehammer, Norway in 1994, which experienced an unseasonably cold average high of 27˚F (-2.7˚C) according to Accuweather.

North Korea held a military parade and rally on Kim Il Sung Square on February 8, just one day before South Korea holds the opening ceremony for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. They never had a second meeting.

Pyeongchang was not supposed to share the spotlight with Pyongyang.

The North Korean delegation is set to return home Sunday.

But North Korea has a habit of not letting itself be ignored when it comes to its southern rival. At every opportunity, the VP will point out the reality of the oppression in North Korea by a regime that has enslaved its people.

Pence is leading the USA delegation to the opening ceremonies, where he has worked to pour cold water on warming ties between the two Koreas.

But South Korean papers marveled at Kim Yo Jong's "humbleness".
