The company will invest about $49 million to establish a year-round base at VPS, which will house two Airbus aircraft.
The seasonal flights to Destin-Fort Walton Beach will operate twice weekly, officials said.
Allegiant said the new routes mean 65 new jobs for pilots, flight attendants, mechanics and other ground support staff. There's a new nonstop flight out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Destin-Fort Walton will be the sixth nonstop destination for Las Vegas-based Allegiant from RDU and the fourth to Florida. Positions are expected to offer average salaries more than double the area's average wage.
