NBCA man has been arrested after a shooting outside the NSA in Maryland

The NSA released no immediate information, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was sending people to the scene.

'The situation is under control and there's no ongoing security or safety threat, ' an NSA spokesman said.

"Meade", the White House said in a statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected", said a White House spokeswoman, Lindsay Walters.

About 7:30 a.m., Anne Arundel County police said in a Twitter message that there was a "possible shooting" near NSA.

"The NSA Police force is now investigating". The exit to NSA remained closed.

From Chopper4, police could be seen surrounding a handcuffed man who was sitting on the ground. Aerial footage obtained by NBC Washington appeared to show a black SUV with bullet holes in its windshield that looked to have crashed into a concrete barrier.

The FBI tweeted it "is aware of the incident at Fort Meade" and is sending personnel to the scene.

In 2015, two men dressed as women tried to ram a stolen auto through the gate of the National Security Agency headquarters at Fort Meade.

Officials do not believe the incident is related to terrorism, Scripps station WMAR in Baltimore reported.

The NSA released a statement saying "NSA, police and law enforcement are addressing an incident this morning at one of NSA's secure vehicle entries".

Earlier media reports said that as many as three people had been wounded at the base, which is the home of the NSA, as well as the U.S. Cyber Command and Defense Information School.
