White's return to the ODI squad comes almost three years after his last worldwide appearance for Australia, during the triangular series played along with England and India.
White's unexpected selection ahead of Glenn Maxwell follows Tim Paine's shock and inspired inclusion in Australia's Ashes-winning team despite the wicketkeeper not even being Tasmania's number one choice. White had been set to lead the Renegades with regular skipper Aaron Finch out on global duty, but the captaincy will now be handed to veteran Brad Hodge.
