Google Play Announces Best Android apps and Games for Q1 2018

Google Duo update allows you to call people without the app installed

The most popular include Five Nights Survival Craft, Mcqueen Car Racing Game, Addon Pixelmon for MCPE, CoolCraft PE, and Exploration Pro WorldCraft.

The company is "struggling to keep certain malware outside the App store" because some nasty code can only be detected by dynamically analyzing the context of an app's actions, which is hard to do, a Check Point researcher explains.

A Google spokesperson said: "We've removed the apps from Play, disabled the developers' accounts, and will continue to show strong warnings to anyone that has installed them".

The malicious app is called Adult Swine, and Check Point said that the big displays inappropriate and pornographic ads, which are attempts to trick users into installing face security apps, and also attempts to get users to sign up for premium services that are charged directly to the user's account. It also meant to get users to buy worthless premium services, the researchers found. In December, YouTube said that Google was planning to increase the number of staff reviewing videos to more than 10,000.

The source of the malware has not been pinpointed, but Peter Alexander, chief marketing officer at Check Point, says it appears the intent was criminal.

The game also features an Easy Mode, where the title character will provide handy hints on what to do or where to go next. The trailer suggests that some of the supporting players may even try to derail Tim and Detective Pikachu's investigation.

After Check Point informed Google about the malware, the tech giant worked with the security firm and deleted the apps right away, Check Point said.

The malware was not found in apps that are a part of Google's "Designed for Families" program.

The new policy would require apps to work as standalone Wear apps and force Wear APKs to be uploaded to the Play Store as a multi-APK instead of bundling them within phone apps. If the app is also supposed to work as a standalone app, developers will additionally have to upload the Wear APK to the Play Store separately.

However, with the number of apps on Google Play estimated at more than 3m, according to Statista, lurking malicious code is sometimes spotted and reported only by users or cyber security firms.

Some of the apps also display fake notices showing the phone has been infected by a virus and provides a malicious link to a fake virus cleaner.
