U.S. Vice President Mike Pence on Monday defended President Donald Trump over his recent comments disparaging immigration from Africa and Haiti, telling The Associated Press that the president's "heart" is aimed at a merit-based system that is blind to immigrants' "race or creed". The watchdog group Common Cause on Monday filed a complaint against the Trump campaign over the alleged payout.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Trump paid the adult film star $130,000 not to disclose information about their alleged trysts during the 2016 presidential election.

In Touch magazine later published an interview with Daniels from 2011 in which she details her affair with Trump, which she claims happened shortly after his youngest son, Barron, was born.

Cohen's payment to Daniels happened the same month the Access Hollywood tape came out, in which candidate Trump had bragged about grabbing women by the 'p****'. He told me once that I was someone to be reckoned with, lovely and smart just like his daughter, ' Daniels told the tabloid in 2011 about her 2006 encounter.

During a conversation in the White House, Trump pointed toward Pence and said "Don't ask that guy - he wants to hang them all!" according to The New Yorker.

The Daniels' story reared its head again once Trump was running for president.

The complaint says that DOJ and the FEC need to review the payment since the funds were used for the goal of influencing the election.

Michael Cohen, a longtime lawyer for Trump, denied the Journal's allegations and released a statement from Daniels denying any "sexual and/or romantic affair" with Trump or the receipt of any "hush money" from Trump.
