Five strange takeaways from the 2018 NBA All-Star game vote results

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors will be the other captain.

LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Dwight Howard and Kevin Garnett have all taken turns as leader since Yao Ming claimed the vote lead in 2005 and 2006. James also led all players with 2,638,294 fan votes.

Each captain will choose the team rosters from the pool of players voted as starters and reserves.

The West starters are Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors, Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans, James Harden of the Houston Rockets, DeMarcus Cousins of the New Orleans Pelicans and Curry.

Fan votes account for 50 per cent while the player and media vote represents 25 per cent each.

On Thursday night, prior to the Celtics' game against the 76ers, the 10 starters for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game were announced on TNT.

But Curry also said he might have a surprise in store for people with the first pick. "Giannis. He dunked on me previous year, so I want to maybe get him on my team so that doesn't happen again". Then the remaining seven players in each conference are chosen by the National Basketball Association head coaches who chose two guards, three frontcourt players, and two players of any position.

James and Curry received the most votes, announce Thursday, from fans in their conferences and will draft from a pool of the rest of the leagues best for the February 18 game in Los Angeles.

The starters were selected by a combination of fan, media and player voting. When they suit up for the game, it will mark the first time a school has had two players in the starting lineup of the NBA All-Star Game since Wake Forest had Chris Paul and Tim Duncan in the 2011 game.

However, all is not lost for the Rookie of the Year favourite with the All-Star game reserves to be announced next week. Each team will have 12 players.

"On the other hand, I recognize that in picking a team to perform in the here and now, it's a little different than drafting", said Silver in an interview with The Starters.

The NBA Draft is televised, and all these storylines come out of it, the most interesting one often being who gets snubbed and who gets picked too high or too low.
