The Consumer Electronics Show came to a halt after a power outage at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The power outage hit shortly after 11am on the second day of CES. "It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years - the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace", CES said on its website. The technology show is covering 2.7 million square feet in Las Vegas and is scheduled to run until Friday.

Companies at the event usually show off new televisions, smart devices, smartphones, virtual assistants, home appliances and other gadgets. Ford, BMW, Audi and Hyundai are all likely to showboat their latest intelligent concept vehicles, while Uber challenger Lyft will be offering attendees lifts in a self-driving Aptiv BMW 5 Series sedan up and down the strip (though a safety driver will be present).

According to Toyota, the e-Pallette is a fully-automated, next generation battery electric vehicle (BEV) created to be scalable and customizable for a range of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) businesses. Other new dedicated areas are focused on smart cities, high-tech retail, and sports technology. There's even a refrigerator that automatically opens its doors when you approach it.

CES said in a statement that the outage was caused by "condensation from heavy rainfall" that sparked a flashover on one of the building's transformers.
