All Sam's Club locations in Alaska are closing, KTVA TV reported.
There are two Sam's Club stores in Montana - one in Billings and the other in Great Falls. They only learned the news when they found their stores locked up with a notice announcing the decision, according to Business Insider.
Every Sam's Club store employs about 150 workers, bringing the total number of affected jobs to about 7,500.
"We've chose to right-size our fleet and better align our locations with our strategy".
Earlier in the day, Walmart had cited the sweeping Republican tax overhaul that will save it money in announcing the higher hourly wages, one-time bonuses and expanded parental benefits that will affect more than a million hourly workers in the U.S.

The company is also expanding its maternity and parental leave benefits, and providing a one time cash bonus for eligible employees of as much as $1,000.
A Walmart spokesperson provided details about the bonus to CNBC, stating long-term employees with over 20 years of loyalty will receive $1,000. Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said, "Tax reform gives us the opportunity to be more competitive globally and to accelerate plans for the U.S".
While many of those criticisms are still being expressed loudly, many American companies are celebrating the changes - and some are passing it on to their employees.
Several companies have promised to issue worker bonuses in the wake of the tax bill's passage, and at least a handful have said they will raise salaries and wages as well. The reform reduces the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% and includes other provisions that benefit businesses and are meant to spur investment.
Walmart executives said they were able to boost employee benefits following the tax reform, which cut USA corporate taxes from 35 to 21 percent.
But while this is a huge step, Walmart and the USA still have a long way to go before every American has paid family leave. Eighteen US states increased their minimum wage on 1 January but the federal minimum wage has been $7.25 since 2009.
