Bungie Doubles Down on its Plans to Fix What's Wrong with Destiny 2

Bungie says it's scaling back Eververse in Destiny 2 content roadmap

Bungie is still investigating XP earn rates, something the Destiny 2 team has been criticized for before. Many players likely would've settled for confirmation that Crimson Days will return next month.

The Crimson Days revival wasn't exactly a surprise for many players. For the uninitiated, Eververse is Destiny's loot box and microtransaction hub, where gameplay intersects with real world money. Will it be just as disappointing as the 2016 iteration?

Players will earn double engrams at level-up: one Crimson Engram and one Illuminated Engram for the duration of the event. Will we still have to rely on tokens and luck to claim prizes?

The upcoming Crimson Days event (beginning on February 13th) will see the beginning of these changes.

Another update is scheduled for February, and it'll include a number of changes like Strike scoring, a re-work of Mods, improvements to Quickplay in the Crucible, text chat on the PC while in the Tower, reduction of duplicate Exotics, and the ability to see your Fireteam members on the destination map. Completing Nightfall, Raid, and milestones will net players an exclusive Legendary Emote, Weapon Skin, and Exotic Sparrow.

Faction Rallies is set to return on January 16th and Iron Banner will be back in rotation on January 30th. But the rest of the event's structure - pledging, destroying supply caches, etc - remains unchanged. Luckily, the developer aims to fix that in a future update which will bring a host of new features to Destiny 2.

The studio plans to add far more useful rewards to Destiny 2's endgame activities. Other feel like their favorite shooter has been made too easy, removing any sense of achievement from the experience.

Bungie reveals a road map with a massive list of changes to overhaul Destiny 2

Players hate Tess Everis and her Eververse shop.

Now, after a month of silence, Bungie has finally responded.

"We recognize that the scales are tipped too far towards Tess at the moment, and Eververse was never meant to be a substitute for end game content and rewards", Barrett said. "Our goal with any updates to XP are transparency and consistent XP gain regardless of your preferred activity", said Barrett.

Raid rewards are also getting a rework on January 30, "to make them more unique and interesting". And that's just the start. However, Bungie are trying to make the crucible be a more rewarding endeavour, so we now know that you'll earn a seasonal Crucible Rank, private matches will be introduced, and that a 6v6 playlist will be added to make a break from the current 4v4 modes.

Destiny 2's game director Christopher Barrett opens the post by saying, "We used to wait to talk about game updates until we were certain we could meet our deadlines to avoid letting players down if we changed our plans".

We're taking the time we need in development of Expansion 2 that will allow us to react to player feedback from Curse of Osiris.
