Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday referred to President Trump's plans to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as a sign of "incompetence and failure".
Khamenei and Rouhani's declarations came at the heels of US President Donald Trump's alleged decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and order to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the city.
"The Islamic world will undoubtedly stand against this plot and the Zionists will receive a big blow from this action and dear Palestine will be liberated", Khamenei said.
Iran has long supported a number of Palestinian militant groups opposed to Israel.

In the past few years, both have introduced multiple new home devices, including speakers and home-security products. Then, last month, Amazon pulled Nest's latest devices, including its cheaper thermostat, from its online store.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, also present at the conference, called the United States decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital "a new adventure of global arrogance".
So, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the USA decision and calls on the worldwide community and leading states particularly the Islamic countries to step into the fray and stop the implementation of the U.S. decision because it only serves the Zionist regime's interests.
"On the issue of Palestine (US) hands are tied and they can not advance their goals", Khamenei said. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns this act and calls on the worldwide organizations, influential countries, and especially the Islamic states, to maintain the stability of the region and prevent the United States from doing so, which is only for the benefit of the Zionist regime.
"Whatever America wants, they'll work against Islam to accomplish it", he said.
