London Mayor Sadiq Khan arrives in Pakistan on maiden tour

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan arrives in Lahore, meets CM Shahbaz Sharif

Earlier this week, Khan visited India where he met top businessmen and celebrities of the country.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan arrived in Lahore on Wednesday via the Wagah Border.

Khan will meet Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who tweeted earlier that he welcome the Mayor "from the historic city of London to the historic city of Lahore".

Sharing images from the trip, he tweeted: "Honour to visit the most sacred place in the world for the Sikh faith - the attractive Golden Temple here in Amritsar, India".

Sadiq Khan said that Pakistan and London share a long and unique history that has had a profound influence on shaping our respective societies, economies, and cultures.

His visit is aimed at promoting his "London is Open" campaign to show that the UK was united and open for businesses following Brexit.

In the memorandum, the MLAs further pointed out that more than 6 million Punjabis settled in North America, Europe, Australia, South East Asia and Middle East countries are from the cities served by Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, Amritsar (ATQ), which is North India's second largest airport after the Delhi airport.

During his time in Pakistan, Khan will also visit Islamabad and Karachi.
