The lower section of the centre console is recognisable as a part used in multiple current Mercedes models, while the two 12.3-inch screens used for the instrument binnacle and infotainment display are encased in a single glass panel, as they are on the current E-Class.

Design themes from the car's exterior are mirrored inside, said Metzger: "The shape of the air vent is the same as the round headlight sitting in the front grille and the shape of the audio speaker is very similar to the indicator on the front bumper".

Most importantly the new G will be 100mm wider and 54mm longer as the current G-Class. Using smartphone styling swiping movements, the buttons also offer haptic feedback.

My encounter with the new G interior was staged in a dark room - no pun intended - with just the interior light of the vehicle on as Mercedes intends to keep the new exterior a secret for a bit longer.

Despite embracing newer technology, the interior has some classic design touches including a passenger side grab handle and chrome-accented switches for the differential locks.

The doors and door handles, for example, are just like those in the current auto and each one shuts with the same characteristic sound. I would probably opt for the latter as it fits the G-class character better.

BNP Paribas Arbitrage SA Sells 14285 Shares of Antero Resources Corporation (AR)
Meanwhile, the price rate of change (ROC) is now 1.755, indicating a Buy. (NYSE:ATHM) on Wednesday, January 27 with "Buy" rating. Peak6 Investments Limited Partnership holds 0.01% of its portfolio in Antero Resources Corporation (NYSE:AR) for 45,138 shares.

For the first time since the late 1980s the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class will see a major relaunch coming January.

In addition, Mercedes' press blurb mentions the G-Class' cockpit features open-pore wood trim, leather seats as well as metal and carbon-fiber inserts. This particularly aids the driver and passengers with rear passengers gaining as much as 15 cm more legroom. There's up to 38mm more shoulder room, and 68mm more elbow room, too.

Specs will be announced later, along with exterior pictures of the vehicle, although Mercedes has confirmed all cars will come with a seven-speaker stereo as standard. It has been extensively modernised, however, with square speaker grills (as part of an optional 16-speaker Burmester system) protruding at either end to mimic the turn signal lenses on the front fender tops, and circular centre vents created to resemble the SUV's historically round headlights.

The front Active Multicontour Seat package will offer heated, cooled and massage functions, while also offering the air bolster side support system from the S-Class. Other choices include the Exclusive Interior Plus package which adds things such as Nappa leather upholstery on the doors, center console, and dashboard. This all sounds good - knowing how limited the space is in my G63 - but will the new G remain as iconic as the old one?

Merc's now ubiquitous curved touchpad for infotainment control, which does duty in almost all other models, makes its way into the G-Class for the first time and the revised centre console layout has also freed up space for two proper cup holders - something previous G-Wagen owners have sorely missed.
