While some people may not have had trouble meeting the enrollment deadlines, that doesn't mean they didn't have questions about how to choose a plan, what changed about their health care since previous year or whether they were eligible for financial assistance, Whitaker and others said.

"Enrollment this year has been strong so far, but as the deadline approaches, it's essential to take action if you need coverage or, if you've already signed up, remind your friends and family that it's time to enroll and see if they can get help paying for coverage", Flowers said.

Previous year in Florida, 1.2 million people signed up through December 17 and an additional 500,000 were added by the end of the open enrollment period that ended January 31.

In North Carolina, 209,050 have signed up for coverage on the Marketplace Nov. 1-Dec. 2.

"I'm not sure what it's going to look like at the end of open enrollment but I don't think we had enough time to necessarily meet the numbers that we would have met in 2017", Janel Davis, Communications Officer for Silver State Health Insurance Exchange said.

Bachurski said they've worked with community partners to get the word out and make sure people are aware that the enrollment period was shorter this year.

Davis says about 85 percent of enrollees qualify for a subsidy or discount.

Costs are rising, and there are fewer options.

He fears all the talk about the federal government ending subsidies to insurance companies and skyrocketing premiums caused a tremendous amount of confusion and scared off some residents.

In Philadelphia, more than 220,000 people now have health insurance coverage through the ACA and Medicaid expansion.

Law and Davis both encourage people to sign up for a plan as soon as possible, and talk to a professional to help find the best policy. We continue to implement and improve upon access to qualified health plans.

The uptick in activity comes after repeated, high-profile attempts by Republicans in Congress to repeal President Barack Obama's signature health care law. "So I always recommend someone consult a broker like myself just to make sure that they are understanding everything correctly".

"Consistent with our aim to have a seamless open enrollment experience for consumers this year, the website is performing well and consumers can easily access enrollment tools to compare plans and prices", a CMS spokeswoman said in an email.

Janel Davis is the communications officer for the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. "A splinter costs $20,000 anymore".

"We've done a lot of outreach to reach out to folks to let them know that the enrollment period is much shorter this year", said Christina Kappiuzhathil, the Health Federation's ACA outreach and enrollment coordinator. It runs from noon to 8 p.m.at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Rooms A2 and A3.

The only catch is that instead of simply logging onto Healthcare.gov and selecting a plan, late enrollees will have to call the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 "to request enrollment".
