Earl Thomas doesn't think Bobby Wagner should have played vs. Rams

Seattle's 35-point defeat was the worst loss suffered at home since a 41-3 drubbing by the Jets in the opening game of the 1997 season.

"No, there is nothing to be happy about", Carroll said.

Or at least he didn't in the aftermath of Seattle's loss that cost it the NFC West title, if not a playoff spot.

The Seahawks weren't simply beaten.

Wagner eventually left the game late in the third quarter with the Seahawks trailing 40-0.

With the Seahawks depleted on defense, the Rams ran early and often, as Todd Gurley finished the game with 152 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

"We have a lot of respect for Seattle", McVay said. "It was embarrassing and humbling".

"I think that our offense continues to gain confidence through scoring points", said Rams guard Roger Saffold. After losing the first meeting against their division rivals, another loss to the Seahawks would have put the Rams in a hard position heading into Week 16 when it comes to the NFC playoff picture.

Battered by key injuries, the Seahawks needed their stars to show up, yet they became part of the problem. Whatever brief MVP campaign Wilson had going finally ended with his only value turning out to be a third-quarter touchdown pass to Luke Willson that kept the Seahawks from getting shutout.

Wilson was 14 of 30 for 142 yards and rushed for 39 yards. He fumbled trying to spin out of a sack and threw a backward pass that lost 23 yards trying to avoid another. So did Jimmy Graham — for minus-1 yard. It was the one highlight of the first half for Seattle.

The Rams scored on six of seven first-half drives thanks largely to great field position. He later had a 26-yard return to set up another short field for the Rams that was capped by the second of Gurley's 1-yard TDs.

Gurley also did damage in the secondary as he caught three passes for 28 yards and a touchdown, giving the All-Pro running back a total of four touchdowns in arguably the biggest game of the season for Los Angeles. The Rams are 10-4 now, an eternity removed from the 10 straight losing seasons they carried into 2017.

The strife in the Seahawks locker room appeared to spill over to social media following the loss.

It started when safety Earl Thomas was discussing linebacker Bobby Wagner playing with a hamstring injury that kept him from practicing last week.

Another play that was indicative of how affected Wagner was on Sunday: in the first half he was in front of Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin outside left on a fly sweep. "But my personal opinion, I don't think they should have played", Thomas said. I think the backups would have did just as good. Their defense was already without Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor, who were still in the lineup when the Seahawks beat the Rams 16-10 in the season's first meeting on October 8.
