Kidnappers of Plateau PDP chairman ‘demand N100m ransom

Ahead of PDP Nat'l Convention, gunmen kidnap party's state chairman, son, others

Sango, a serial governorship aspirant, is the current Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau State.

The former Minister of Sports was kidnapped on Wednesday by unknown gunmen alongside his son, driver, a prominent chieftain of the PDP in Plateau State.

A family member, Mr. Jonathan Mapis, said the victims were abducted on their way to Abuja for the Saturday PDP National Convention, when the abductees got them.

The Publicity Secretary of PDP in Plateau State, John Akans, confirmed the incident in an interview with The PUNCH in Jos on Thursday.

The other persons that were kidnapped are one of the PDP elders in Plateau State, Chief Emmanuel Mangni; Sango's son, his driver, and his police orderly.

Speaking on the demand, Mr. Akans said: "We just received a message that they are demanding N100 million".

The incident was said to have occured while they were in transit from Jos to Abuja in preparations for the party's national convention.

Tyopev said that the Plateau Police Command had reached out to the Kaduna Command on the matter. From what they demanded, we are waiting to see whether they will come down from tomorrow.

"The abductors have contacted the family".

Party stakeholders from his country home in Riyom such as former federal lawmaker, Simon Mwadkwon, and the state Commissioner for Finance, Mang, have called on the Federal Government to make Nigerian roads safer for travellers with the establishment of security checkpoints at intervals on major highways in the country.
