But when he tried to find it again, he failed - telling the police it had been stolen, the Daily Mail reports.

The 46-year-old eventually found his Dodge Charger, reports KOMO-TV, right before he was booked into the Pierce County Jail, charged with false reporting.

The auto was discovered by accident when the city authorities chose to demolish the old building a few days ago.

But since it no longer worked - and as he was evidently not the sentimental sort - he said he didn't want it anymore.

"Twenty years later, the authorities in the city have tracked down the missing vehicle, only to discover that the man who owned it had in fact, just forgotten where he'd parked the auto and had assumed it had been stolen", The Independent reported.

"The vehicle can no longer be driven and will be sent to the scrap heap", Frankfurt authorities told Metro UK, which also reported that the auto in question was a Volkswagen Passat.

There must be a library of parking fines.
