Israel issues strong warning against Hamas and Islamic Jihad

Israel's October 30 blowing up of the tunnel resulted in the deaths of 12 Palestinian fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The destruction from three Israeli offensives since 2008, including damage to the enclave's water, sanitation, energy, and medical facilities, coupled with slow reconstruction due to the blockade, led the United Nations to warn that Gaza could be "uninhabitable" by 2020.

On Friday, the Israeli occupation announced that it reinforced its military existence in the peripheries of the Gaza Strip and it had deployed elite forces there. The report stated that the terrorist group also has upped its readiness to the highest level. "The threat by the enemy to harm the leadership is a declaration of war and we will deal with them", the organization said in a statement.

According to Palestinian media, Hamas encouraged Islamic Jihad to abstain from retaliating both in order to prevent further escalation with Israel and to prevent the reconciliation talks it has been conducting with the Palestinian Authority from falling apart.

Greenblatt wrote that the Palestinian Authority must accept full responsibility in Gaza: "US is working with the PA, Israel, Egypt & others to try to improve the situation".
