Doctor: Hayward's injury could have been worse

Celtics forward Gordon Hayward underwent surgery to fix a dislocated left ankle and a fractured tibia and is expected to miss the rest of the season, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told both ESPN and the Boston Globe.

Before Wednesday's game, Celtics coach Brad Stevens updated the media on his All-Star forward's situation.

He will require surgery, of course, but both the Celtics and Hayward are still trying to decide when and where to have that procedure done.

A few miles away, Hayward was being wheeled into surgery to fix the ankle he mangled in the season opener.

"I'm going to be all right", Hayward said. I want nothing more than to be there with my teammates and walk out on that floor tonight. I urge you to quickly see a therapist if this isn't true for you.

Hayward's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN and the Herald that the former Utah Jazz star - who signed a four-year deal worth $128 million to join the Celtics this season - is unlikely to play again before next season.

The Celtics fell to 0-2 with a 108-100 home loss Wednesday to Milwaukee.

He also warned that America needs to accept "globalization" and reject "white supremacy". Bush said Thursday that "bigotry seems emboldened" in the modern U.S.

Of particular note to Celtics fans, Stevens wouldn't declare whether or not Hayward's injury is season-ending. It's tough. I wish him a quick recovery. That's how we work as a society, sports has a next-man-up philosophy that's strongly held to and there will be more fun dunks, rivalries and things to concentrate on.

Hayward jumped in an effort to catch a pass but came down badly.

"It's definitely been tough", said rookie forward Jayson Tatum.

But right now, as we're all a little spooked by the reminder of how fraught a career and a season is?

The team also traded fan favorite Isaiah Thomas to Cleveland for Irving and shipped out regular starters Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder.

Hayward will stay in Boston during his rehabilitation. This time, he got hit in the air a bit and landed awkwardly, resulting in the bad injury.
