On directions from Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Police has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murders of senior journalist K J Singh and his 92-year-old mother Gurcharan Kaur. Giving details of the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) AlamVijay Singh confirmed the double murder and said the motive behind the murder is being investigated.
It is still not clear whether it was just a case of burglary or it was a pre-meditated murder for some reason. According to police, the throats were slit and there were injury marks on the bodies of both mother and son.
According to Hindustantimes, Singh's Ford Ikon vehicle is also missing, the police said. Singh's mother Gurcharan Kaur, was strangulated to death. KJ Singh was a former news editor of The Indian Express.
