US Leadership Vacuum Being Filled by Russia, Iran and Other Nefarious Actors

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini is chairing the closed-door meeting to discuss the 2015 deal that President Donald Trump has threatened to scrap unless it is re-opened for negotiations. He added that in case the deal collapses, Tehran could return to the high level uranium enrichment that is needed for its reactor fuel.

Iran has vowed not to be the first nation to violate the Iran nuclear deal and said it did not expect the United States to abandon it despite President Donald Trump's fierce criticism.

"We can not let a murderous regime continue these destabilising activities while building risky missiles and we can not abide by an agreement if it provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear programme", he said.

Iran unveiled what it said was a new ballistic missile with a range of 2,000km, capable of carrying several warheads, during commemorations for the Iran-Iraq war and days after the USA president called Tehran a "corrupt dictatorship". No doubt, Mr. Trump's continued attack on the Iran deal pleases hard-line supporters at home as well as Arab allies and Israel in West Asia.

In a speech broadcast on state television, Rouhani said: "We will increase our military power as a deterrent".

Rouhani on Wednesday called Trump's speech to the United Nations.

"Iran has never sought, is not now seeking and will never seek nuclear weapons", he said.

Rather, the now turning their back on the deal because of "political aspects", Tillerson said.

"People need to understand that all the talk about North Korea is directly related to Iran", said Rubin. "The detached from the realities of the worldwide community", he said. "I knew he had, but I didn't know he was going to say he had".

The president made the comments during a meeting in NY with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Trump said Wednesday he has made a decision on whether he will certify to Congress by an October 15 deadline that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal, as he already has done twice this year. Under the agreement, Iran has halted nuclear development in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

She then turned the question on the reporter asking the question and, in turn, those who support the deal: "I'll ask you, do you think that deal is working when Iran continues to test ballistic missiles?"

"It is time to move beyond President Obama's appeasement of Iran and to begin work on a comprehensive new approach that fully addresses the menace that the Iranian regime increasingly poses to American and worldwide security", the letter said.
