Iran conducts successful test of Khorramshahr ballistic missile

Iran Shows Off Khorramshahr Ballistic Missile After Trump Speech

Defying Trump, President Rouhani says Iran boost missile capability

Iran tested a new ballistic missile that reportedly is capable of carrying multiple warheads, CNN reported Saturday, citing the nation's state-run broadcaster announced.

Iran says all of its missiles are created to carry conventional warheads only and their range has been limited, although commanders say they have the technology to go further.

Earlier on Friday morning, the missile was unveiled during a military parade in Tehran attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and senior military officials.

Israel denounced Iran's testing of a medium-range missile as a "provocation" to the USA and its allies, Israeli Army Radio reported on Sunday.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that it needs defensive weapons to protect the nation, however the U.S. and Israel believe its arsenal are a threat to the Middle East's security.

The missile was first displayed in the capital Tehran on Friday 22 September during military parades held to commemorate the Sacred Defence Week, which marks the anniversary of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the nuclear deal signed between Tehran and major world powers including Washington in 2015, saying that he believes Iran is violating the agreement, which restricted Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for the easing of economic sanctions. That would make it capable of reaching Israel and Saudi Arabia, CNN reported. "They are also working with North Korea", he added.

Trump called the global nuclear deal an "embarrassment".

The President's critique bolstered the view of those who believe the USA will walk away from the Iranian nuclear deal struck under Barack Obama.

Despite worldwide condemnation, Iran's defense minister stated Tehran would not abandon its missile program. "Not much of an agreement we have!"

During UN General Assembly meeting, Trump did not skip out Iran from the allegations to support terrorism. "We will not seek permission from anyone to defend our country", he said in a speech broadcast on state television.

It recently impose new sanctions against it for continuing with its missile program and tests.

By August, Iran had tested eight advanced IR-8 centrifuges although the deal limits it to one at most, the report said, adding that Iran also operated between 13 and 15 interconnected IR-6 machines, which the deal restricts to 10.
