Alfre Woodard Joins Disney's 'The Lion King' (Exclusive)

Fans of the original cartoon ( - poor mum, I dragged her to the cinema 6 times to see it) will know Sarabi as the mother of Simba, and Rafiki is the wise old baboon who plays a pivotal role in the story.

Alfre Woodard has joined the lineup for Disney's upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King, taking on the role of Sarabi.

Next up, The Hollywood Reporter says that Oscar-nominee Alfre Woodard has been cast as Sarabi in The Lion King remake.

Iconic actor Robert Guillaume voiced this part in the original 1994 animation. "The Lion King" is now shooting in Los Angeles.

Director Favreau follows in his own, having make The Jungle Book live action remake for Disney past year.
