United Airlines flight lands with engine on fire at Denver airport

Passenger Raiyan Syed wrote on twitter: "My flight from Aspen to Denver caught fire on runway after landing".

The left engine of a plane was engulfed in flames before the pilot landed safely at Denver International Airport.

Shaken holidaymakers could be seen fleeing the aircraft blaze on foot after the left engine of the Bombardier CRJ-701E caught fire.

Twitter images snapped by the passengers show flames blowing out of the tail engine, with more flames shooting from an unidentified component on the runway just behind the aircraft.

SkyWest Flight 5869 was reportedly "on fire" at the time it made the runway. The fire was extinguished, but the cause is still being investigated. "Other airport operations remain unaffected", airport officials said at 3:25 p.m.
