Tigers Trade All-Star Outfielder JD Martinez To Diamondbacks For Prospects

They acquired All-Star outfielder J.D. Martinez for a trio of shortstop prospects.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are capitalizing on their hot first half.

Martinez has just 45 plate appearances against left-handed pitching this season and is hitting.474 (18 for 38) with six home runs, four home runs and 11 RBI.

The D-backs have sent three minor-league prospects - infielders Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King - to the Tigers in exchange for Martinez, who is set to become a free agent after this season. He'll slot into left field, where with Yasmany Tomas hurt Arizona has been forced to use Daniel Descalso, among others.

In 57 games, the 29-year-old has slugged 16 home runs with a.305 average and.416 wOBA. According to multiple reports, Martinez has been traded to the Diamondbacks from the Tigers for prospects.

"The sense of urgency happened on day one when we were playing really well", Hazen said.

Lugo, 22, played in 88 games for Double-A Jackson this season, hitting.282 with 21 doubles and 43 RBIs while Alcantara, 21, appeared in 86 games at Single-A Advanced Visalia in 2017, hitting.279 with 15 doubles and 28 RBIs.
