Doha says USA media report showed UAE attack on Qatar's news agency

United States intelligence officials have just announced that, following information made available to them last week, the United Arab Emirates "hacked government websites in Qatar in late May", sparking the worst crisis in the Gulf in years, according to a report by the Washington Post.

Qatar has been ostracised by its neighbours since reports revealed its emir making comments praising Hamas and calling Iran an "Islamic power".

Swiss news network The Local said a fake news story quoting Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino had been posted on a copycat website on Saturday. Other countries involved in the embargo included Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Senegal and Mauritania.

Among other things, they've always been irate over Qatar's ties to militant and terrorist Islamist groups in the Mideast and its friendly relations with Iran - Saudi Arabia's chief rival in the region.

The ambassador to UAE pronounced a news report asserting that UAE was responsible for hacking Qatari government sites "false". Henderson believes that it could be an attempt by some operators in the Trump administration to diminish the strength of the Saudi/UAE position in negotiations with Qatar over ending the boycott.

"Qatar has evidence that certain iPhones originating from countries laying siege to Qatar were used in the hack", Ali Bin Fetais al-Marri, Qatar's attorney general, told reporters in the capital, Doha, on June 21. Shortly after the blockade was announced, the USA ambassador to Qatar rallied to Doha's defense, highlighting America's past praise for Qatar's efforts in combatting terrorism. What effect, if any, did this revelation have on Trump's credulous support for the campaign?

Germany's Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in a statement that he was "pleased to see talks between (the USA secretary of state) and the Kuwaitis".

No matter where evacuees go, everyone is encouraged to register with the Red Cross as soon as possible by calling 1-800-863-6582. Those affected by the order are also asked to head south to the emergency centre in Kamloops via Highway 97.

As tensions flared after the report, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson flew to the region to try to narrow the rift.

Trump met with the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders days before the crisis broke out and even discussed countering Iran with a NATO-like regional force.

They say Qatar has supported many radical groups.

Still, it's hard for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates not to feel as if Trump is on their side, especially given his embrace of their worldview.

The UAE has termed the Post report false.

"What we really do want is we either reach an agreement and Qatar's behaviour changes, or Qatar makes its own bed and they can move on and we can move with a new relationship". Funding, supporting, and enabling extremists from the Taliban to Hamas and Qadafi. "Inciting violence, encouraging radicalization, and undermining the stability of its neighbors", the statement further read.
