Trump's legal plan built in his image: Fight, fight, fight

Trump lawyer says president isn't under investigation, despite tweets

Trump not under investigation in Russia probe: Lawyer

A member of President Donald Trump's outside legal team is defending Trump's use of social media.

That tactic from Trump's lawyers and proxies has manifested itself in aggressively worded statements and television appearances aimed at warding off any legal threat from prosecutors - and persuading the American public the president isn't in legal jeopardy. The suggestion last week that Trump may fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller is another example.

"You know it exists", Cuomo said.

Sekulow says "I don't tell him what to write or not write. But he's not yet made that momentous decision to go for a full-scale investigation".

The White House spent the day clarifying that the President was not confirming whether he was indeed under investigation, but rather was simply responding to the report.

He led the department's task force that investigated and prosecuted Enron executives in the energy giant's stunning collapse.

Trump has denounced the various investigations as a "witch hunt".

The team of lawyers investigating potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign is still growing, but its early composition reveals a breadth of experience in criminal law and in following the money.

Lacking votes, Senate GOP delays vote on health care bill
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell , D-Kty., has postponed the vote on the health care bill until after the August recess. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) have said they, too , will likely oppose the procedural motion that allows debate on the bill to start.

SEKULOW: Well, look, I - I can't imagine the scenario where the president would - would not be aware of it. Another key will be Mueller's assessment of Comey allegation that Trump tried to get him to stop the investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. King said the "collusion, the cooperation aspect of the investigation is not over".

Sekulow explained Trump's tweet was specifically directed at a Washington Post story about the expanding investigation into Russia's election meddling. "Now in this environment with a Justice Department where 97 percent of the donations past year went to Hillary - 97 percent - explain to me why I should relax as a Republican". Trump took to Twitter to confirm that the FBI was investigating him and termed it a witch hunt stating that he was being investigated by the man who told him to fire Comey.

"He probably can't say nothing, but I think he should say as little as possible - and it should be so boring that it makes for bad copy", he said.

Trump has also retained Sekulow, who has been the face of the legal team on TV - though he, too, has an untypical background, having largely specialized in religious liberty claims.

Trump's political opponents, mainly Democrats, have accused Trump's presidential campaign of "colluding" with Russian officials to undermine the election, but so far no concrete evidence has surfaced showing ties between Trump's campaign and Russia.

Trump refers to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the man leading the federal investigation. "The president is not a subject or target of an investigation".

"The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation", Rubio said on CNN's State of the Union, adding that he has "no reason" to doubt Mueller and his investigation.
