Trump may 'terminate' Russia probe's Mueller says president's pal

BARRETT: Right. And if you think back to Comey's testimony, he says pretty clearly that he believes his firing was an attempt to change the course of the Russian Federation investigation.

Lawyer Jay Sekulow has questioned the appropriateness of Mr Mueller's actions in reviewing Mr Comey's testimony against Mr Trump last week, before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Mr Ruddy appeared to be basing his remarks, at least in part, on comments from Jay Sekulow, a member of Mr Trump's legal team, who told ABC in an interview on Sunday that he was "not going to speculate" on whether Mr Trump might at some point order deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein to sack Mr Mueller.

Rosenstein said that if he fired Mueller, he would be required to explain it in writing.

Just weeks ago, Gingrich had heaped praise on Mueller, hailing him as a "superb choice" for special counsel whose reputation was "impeccable for honesty and integrity". Richard Burr, R-N.C., listen on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"I personally think it would be a very significant mistake", Ruddy continued, "even though I don't think there's a justification ... for a special counsel in this case".

If questions arise about what matters Sessions should stay away from, he said, a career official in Rosenstein's office is consulted. "But very rarely will he say this to me now", Ruddy told RealClearPolitics. "I think he's weighing that option", Ruddy told PBS "NewsHour" when asked if Trump would let Mueller continue in his role in the Russian Federation probe.

"I do not", Sessions said when asked whether he knows whether the president records his conversations. After responding that he had not, Rosenstein reassured Shaheen of his confidence in the process.

She and other family members immediately tried to leave the courtroom, and did so after security officers briefly barred the way. The shooter, Micah Johnson, said he acted in retaliation for killings of black men by police officers, police officials said.

Of the six in 10 Americans who think Trump tried to obstruct or impede the investigation, most are Democrats and independents.

A White House spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said Tuesday that Trump "has no intention" of firing Mueller, but maintained he "has the right to".

Law enforcement sources tell CNN that the special counsel is gathering information and considering whether there is evidence to launch a full-scale obstruction investigation.

The news came the same week as Trump friend Chris Ruddy floated the possibility that Trump would fire Mueller, who was appointed to head up the investigation after Trump fired Comey.

In his dramatic appearance before former colleagues, Sessions also contradicted a contention made by former FBI Director James Comey at a hearing before the same panel last week. Comey's decision to announce past year that Clinton would not be prosecuted over her emails was a "usurpation" of the Justice Department's authority, Sessions said.

A few days after the March 22 meeting, Trump spoke separately with Coats and Rogers and asked them to issue public statements to the effect that there was no evidence of coordination between his campaign and Russian Federation.

Feinstein has said the Judiciary Committee should investigate, but had asked Grassley to keep the investigations separate. Under the regulation, Special Counsel Mueller may be fired only for good cause, and I am required to put that cause in writing.

The poll began the day before Comey testified publicly before the Senate intelligence committee and continued through Sunday.
