Relay For Life Greenwich Event Set for June 10

Relay For Life of Greenwich this weekend

The event has new hours this year, beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at midnight rather than continuing overnight as it has done in previous years.

"This event is very special to me on a personal level in that I lost my sister when she was 41, my dad in 2013 and my older brother died a year ago June 20". "Without Relay for Life we would never be able to do anything toward research, supporting families who are going through cancer or providing accurate up to date information", Sharon Bristol of the Canadian Cancer Society.

This Saturday's Randolph County Relay For Life event will feature free entertainment, plenty of food, a silent auction and lots of activities created to raise funds to help fight against cancer. "Our biggest hope is that our children and grandchildren won't have to deal with this terrible disease".

"We always have good response from the community and the participants", Wildberger said. From the opening survivors" walk, to the luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m. where loved ones who lost their battle are remembered, to the closing "fight back' ceremony, it is a memorable and inspirational experience.

Following the release of dozens of purple balloons, the survivors will be honored and applauded by their fellow participants as they make their way around the stadium.

The Relay's co-chair, Wendy Wildberger, a cancer survivor and the Relay's 2008 and first-ever Hero of Hope, said she's excited to see the event come together for another year.

Standing at the south end of Carson City-Crystal's Community Field on Friday evening, the Carson City administrator shared her story of overcoming breast cancer after being diagnosed on February 13, 2009. "Each team will sell random things at the Relay itself". Teams will be selling all kinds of food and offering a variety of games to raise finds for the fight against cancer.

He said downtown Elkins is a great location for the event, which takes place at the Elkins Town Square adjacent to the Welcome Center. "I guarantee you will enjoy yourself".

Other teams will also be selling food like hot dogs and hamburgers to try to raise more money for Relay for Life. The event is scheduled to end at 10 p.m. "We have forty three teams which also is incredible", said Kyra Miller, Community Manager of Relay for Life. Just that little bit has changed people's lives.
