Lawyer says Trump not under investigation

On Friday morning, President Trump sent a tweet that seemed to confirm that he was under scrutiny, writing, "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

He said Trump's statement on Twitter Friday was specifically in response to a story in The Washington Post about the expanding probe into Russia's election meddling.

Trump advisers describe the president as increasingly angry over the investigation, yelling at television sets carrying coverage and insisting he is the target of a conspiracy.

"There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation", Sekulow said.

US President Donald Trump is not under any investigation for obstruction of justice in a probe into his possible collusion with Russian Federation, his attorney says. "If in fact it's correct that the president is being investigated, he's being investigated for taking an action that an agency told him to take".

"Let me be crystal clear so you completely understand".

The lawyer, Jay Sekulow, contended the tweet was not a confirmation of the investigation, but instead a response to a report in The Washington Post. Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and has expansive powers to probe any matters that develop from his initial investigation. But Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them. "Period", Sekulow said, using similar phrasing for emphasis as he did on "Meet the Press".

"With all due respect, the President said "I am being investigated" in a tweet, and people take his word on that".

"Now my sources are telling me that he's begun some preliminary planning, plans to talk to some people in the administration, but he has not made that momentous decision to go for a full-scale investigation", he said on ABC's "This Week".

Schiff also said he believes recent congressional testimony from Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions points to signs of possible obstruction by Trump that warrant further investigation. "Witch Hunt." It was the first time Trump had publicly acknowledged that he's under investigation.
