Larson outlasts Elliott at MI again

The next race is Sunday June 25 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway, the first of two road races on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule.

He has led a resurgence at Chip Ganassi Racing, which as an organization has run the best among the teams supported by Chevrolet, which lost one of its top organizations in Stewart-Haas Racing to Ford this year.

"Ryan Blaney gave me a heck of a push", Larson said, "so I've really got to thank him a ton". As Busch darted away as the field accelerated, Larson got to his quarterpanel and used the air to slow him down. I knew the Penske cars took off good, so I was happy to see him behind me. For us to withstand a few restarts there with some tough competitors there was pretty important. I wasn't close enough to get to him or make a move.

NHRA: Clay Millican raced to his first career Top Fuel victory in 254 starts and ninth final-round appearance, beating Leah Pritchett at the Thunder Valley Nationals final in Bristol, Tenn. "There were times I wondered if this was going to happen, " Millican said. "The objective of having stages was really because the networks want more cautions, more restarts, because people tune in when we have a caution. It's kind of just a drag race".

"Michigan and Fontana are very, very similar in shape and size, but the racing surface is way different", Larson said. "Ya know, I can't remember another Father's Day present right now! My dad's here today so looking forward to celebrating with him". "We've been so close to so many other wins". Finally in his breakout year, he has two wins to go along five runnerup finishes (sixth if counting the All-Star Race). "All-in-all, it's a good season so far and we'll continue to keep building on what we've got".

Denny Hamlin, who won Saturday's Xfinity event, finished fourth Sunday, followed by Jamie McMurray. Last night I was pretty nervous about how the day was going to go.

"Then the last restart there when I got clear to the lead, I had some butterflies", he added. And, unfortunately, it just didn't work out.

He fell victim to a wonderful side-draft maneuver by Kyle Larson.

Car rams police vehicle on famed Paris avenue; attacker dies
French officials, speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the incident was a suspected attack on police. The gunman, Karim Cheurfi, was shot dead by police and a note praising the Islamic State group was found next to his body.

"I'm not sure we had a third-place auto today, but the team executed like they needed to get the Shell-Pennzoil Ford into the top three".

Jones took the wave-around during the caution after dropping off the lead lap for a loose wheel in Segment 1.

Logano was also smiling after the race, ending a streak of five races outside the top 20 with a third-place result.

When Kyle Larson won the pole and led 80 of the first 108 laps Sunday at Michigan International Speedway, it appeared as if it was his race to lose, and anything less than a win would be a disappointment.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver, though, holds just a five-point lead over Furniture Row Racing's Martin Truex Jr., who entered Sunday's race as the points leader and left MI with two stage victories and a sixth-place finish. Busch slid back to seventh.

It marked the third time this season that Truex has took the opening two stages in a race to go along with Las Vegas and Dover. Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch also were sent to the rear for the start because of unapproved body modifications before the race.

Patrick finished last after being knocked out by the accident on the 190th lap.
