After the attacks, Mr Rosenstein himself issued a statement that closely matched Mr Trump's own rhetoric. Trump has already alienated the intelligence community by openly mocking ongoing investigations and by using an appearance at the Central Intelligence Agency to promote his agenda rather than praise agents killed on the job.
Shortly after Trump fired Comey, a Justice Department official tapped Mueller to take up the investigation as a special counsel.
In a series of angry tweets Friday morning, President Donald Trump appeared to confirm reports that he is under federal investigation for obstruction of justice following the firing of former FBI director James Comey. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them. "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office", Feinstein said in a statement Friday.
Trump and his White House have offered various explanations for Comey's abrupt ouster, including that he lost the confidence of the bureau's rank and file - a suggestion flatly dismissed by acting director Andrew McCabe.
The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.
Last week it was revealed that Mueller is investigating Trump for obstruction of justice for the way in which he fired FBI Director James Comey.
ABC News reported on Friday that Rosenstein has privately said he may need to recuse himself from matters relating to the Russian Federation probe, given that he could become a potential witness in the investigation.
Trump to announce plan to stop cash flow to Cuban military
Trump was making the announcement Friday at a Miami theater associated with Cuban exiles who oppose the island's leadership. MIAMI, Fla. (WKOW) - President Trump is expected to reveal his administration's new policy toward Cuba in a speech Friday.
"Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations". An aide familiar with the meeting said it was held to discuss the investigations, including ways that the parallel inquiries don't interfere with or overlap one another.
The officials who described the financial focus of the investigation spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly. They are building a case for firing Mueller.
But Trump tried to remain on the offensive yesterday, charging on Twitter that investigators have so far turned up no evidence of wrongdoing.
Another White House official told the Daily Beast it would "suicide" for Trump to get rid of the special counsel.
Despite appointing Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Rosenstein has held ultimate authority over the investigation since Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself earlier this year. This confirmation came after he thrice reassured Trump of his (Trump's) non-involvement in the matter.
In another development, members of Trump's transition team that served him after he was elected in November until he took office in January have been ordered to preserve materials related to the Russian Federation matter, the New York Times reported. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the laywer's internal order sent Thursday. However, Trump later told NBC News' Lester Holt that he had already made a decision to fire Comey before that memo was written. In a special hearing, last week, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee he believes Trump fired him because he resisted presidential requests to drop the Russian Federation investigation, especially as it pertained to Flynn, the former national security adviser.
