Trump is accused of firing FBI director James Comey over his refusal to steer the Russian Federation investigation away from former national security adviser and Trump ally Mike Flynn. During his testimony before Congress on June 8, Comey stated that he thinks Trump sacked him in order to disrupt the FBI's investigation, according to Reuters. Shortly after Trump fired Comey, a Justice Department official tapped Mueller to take up the investigation as a special counsel.
Rosenstein submitted a widely circulated memo to the president last month raising concerns over Comey's performance, but Trump later asserted that he had already made the decision himself to fire Comey.
The obstruction of justice investigation into Trump began days after Comey was sacked on May 9, according to people familiar with the matter, the Washington Post said.
In another tweet earlier Friday, Trump wrote, "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof".
"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" All week, some of Trump's most ardent defenders, including his son Donald Trump Jr., his White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and friend and occasional adviser Newt Gingrich have questioned the probe in similar ways.
May failed to get the mandate she sought
After the election, the right-wing UK Independence Party, which helped drive Brexit, was left with no seats in Parliament. Mrs May could face a similar fate, giving Corbyn a route to power on the back of his surge in support across the UK.
Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team. The media reports focused on if Trump ordered anybody in the intelligence arena to prevent FBI from investigating the crimes of Flynn as well as collusion. "Nice, ' Trump tweeted, later repeating his accusation that the probe is a 'witch hunt".
"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", he told The Post.
The Associated Press also filed a FOIA request for the documents but has not received any documents and has not sued. Trump tweeted Thursday afternoon.
The memo sent Thursday asks for records related to foreign travel, contacts with Russian "officials, agents or nationals" and background investigations into the top Trump associates now targeted by Mueller's probe.
"Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, "bleached" emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared- & they talk about obstruction?"
